History
After
many years of driving to various areas of Winnipeg to source
our expensive organic products we decided to join a food buying
club. The prices were cheaper, except it was disorganized
and inconvenient. We were compelled to purchase products that
we did not want or need and had more waste, which cost us
more money. The club was restricted to 20 members, which did
not allow for many product choices. Also the order schedule
was bi-weekly, so we ran out of food or if we bought more
it was wasted. So we still drove all over Winnipeg searching
for organic food. We also did not like all the work involved
in splitting and sorting orders, not everyone showed up or
put in the same effort. And we were never given a proper cost
or receipt for our purchases.
In November
2002 the Eat It.ca concept was created. Originally we started
an email food buying club. Imagine receiving orders in every
imaginable format. Our club grew quickly as word spread. We
hired Authsol
to develop a corporate image and e-commerce website. Check
out some of our logo
samples. Imagine a club where all you did was order, pay
and pick it up. We came up with a better organic food club
with cheaper prices and a convenient way to shop. We launched
our website in March 2003. We were featured in local newspapers
and media, including the Weeklies, the Winnipeg Free Press
and A-Channel's Big Breakfast Show.
Since
receiving our 1st online order we have added hundreds of products.
We have moved 6 times!
Our patrons have picked up from our 1st home on 920 Ash, The
Italian Canadian Cultural Centre on Wilkes Avenue, our last
home on 149 Laurel Ridge Drive, 35 Trottier Bay, 489 Madison
Street, 739 Wall Street and our current location 603 Wall
Street. We have over 3000 square feet of space - more than
double the space we had at 739 Wall Street!
The new location has street parking and space for 10 cars
at the side. We are located 1 block north of Portage.
We have even better street frontage, so we expect our business
to grow even quicker.
Thanks to all our regulars for
following us around.
We will be at this location for 5 years!
Our organic market is now open Monday to Saturday.
Our latest
development is this revised site with additional features
including a "Saved Cart" or shopping list. Select
your favorite products and upload your list everytime you
place an order. Add or delete items and check out. With this
new feature you can shop in a few quick minutes. Now its even
easier to buy organic food. We already make it more affordable.
This site also features quantity discounts, member discounts,
gift vouchers, email a friend etc. Surf the site and let us
know what you think.
Stay tuned
for more updates.
